Praxis engages tech giants on AI ethics

Artificial intelligence is advancing faster than regulation can keep pace – and Praxis Investment ManagementTM is taking action. As part of its broader Ethics and Technology investment theme, Praxis has launched a shareholder engagement initiative targeting major tech companies on the ethical dimensions of AI development and deployment.

Ethical AI encompasses high-stakes issues including algorithmic management, autonomous weapons development, and online child safety. It encourages the consideration of human rights and the environment as AI is created, distributed and utilized.

Ethical AI policies and public disclosure are crucial, given the rapid development and adoption of AI with little regulatory oversight. Without proper guardrails, AI poses major risks to users, developers, and investors. These risks have already had material impacts in unprecedented and highly publicized ways. Some examples include noted impacts on users’ mental health and a Disney/Universal Studios lawsuit on the basis of copyright infringement.

Praxis believes that responsible AI development requires companies to proactively address these concerns – not wait for regulators to force their hand. We began engaging companies on ethical AI in 2025 with plans to deepen that work in 2026 by targeting specific issues and advocating for the adoption of comprehensive AI ethics principles at the corporate level.
