Engaging Microsoft on ethical AI
Praxis works to advance accountability, transparency, and responsible stewardship in the digital age
Overview
- Praxis Investment Management is engaging Microsoft and other technology companies on ethical AI issues, focusing on human rights, transparency, data worker protections, and responsible AI governance as part of its Ethics in Tech advocacy initiative.
- Through investor dialogues with Microsoft, Praxis is advocating for stronger safeguards around AI development and deployment to help ensure technology advances in ways that respect human dignity, digital rights, and environmental sustainability.
Praxis Investment ManagementTM has begun shareholder engagement with major tech companies on the ethical dimensions of Artificial Intelligence (AI) development and deployment. This is part of our emerging Ethics in Tech advocacy theme, which promotes responsible innovation and respect for human dignity in the digital age.
AI has become prevalent in our society, touching people of all ages, cultures, and societies, whether worker, child, or user. AI also has a pronounced impact on our planet, using large amounts of natural resources.
Praxis, along with a group of other concerned investors, began engaging Microsoft on AI in 2025. Microsoft, a large and influential technology company, is a leader in the AI space, particularly as one of the world’s foremost integrators and distributors of AI in software.
Through written communications exchanges and two dialogues, the investors and Microsoft have discussed several critical topics, including:
- Usage of human content moderators, and the issue of data worker rights.
- Transparency surrounding the training of AI systems.
- Customer use limitations for their AI systems.
- Protections for human rights in their AI initiatives.
Praxis is engaging Microsoft and other tech companies to help shape a safer future for the impact of AI. Concerns surrounding data workers, digital rights, and ethical AI are at the forefront of our work.
